Showa Retro Glass” is glass that has been distorted on purpose. Retro glass with shimmering reflection

Showa retro glass is a shimmering glass that was used in old historical buildings and fittings such as sliding doors. In the past, glass was made by hand-blowing, which gives this glass a soft shimmering quality that gives it a nostalgic and warm feeling.

Two types according to manufacturing method.

There are two types of Showa-retro glass: imported retro glass (Retron), which has real distortion, and Showa-retro style glass, which uses transparent paint to create distortion on one side of the glass. Showa-retro style glass with paint is less expensive than imported retro glass with distortion in the glass itself and can be used in larger sizes, so many people choose Showa-retro style glass when using it as window glass for buildings.

The paint used for retro-style glass is coated using lacquerware coating techniques, so it will not peel even if scraped with a fingernail. When used on the exterior, the painted surface faces the interior.

On the other hand, Showa Retro glass with real distortion (Retron) is European glass, but it looks exactly like glass made in the Showa period in Japan, and the glass is distorted as if it were handmade. It is often used for retro furniture and historic buildings, and is recommended for those who want to use old-fashioned distorted glass to create a retro feel.
