Glass became widely used for windows, sliding
doors, and shoji screens in Japan during the
Taisho and Showa periods.
Glass windows made it easier to let light into the
house, thus realizing the “bright and open space”
that is a characteristic of Japanese houses.
In the early Showa period, not only transparent
glass, but also glass with a pattern on one side,
such as “molded plate glass,” which allows
light to pass through while maintaining privacy,
were widely used.
The “Showaigataita-glass” and “Showa Retro
glass” that we offer reproduce the patterns and
textures of such glass that was popular in
Japanese houses during the Showa period.
